Neumann Brothers, Inc. joins 2017 National Safety Stand-Down to Prevent Falls in Construction campaign

Monday, May 8, 2017

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

DES MOINES, Iowa (May 8, 2017) – May 8-12th is 2017 National Safety Stand-Down to Prevent Falls in Construction week. Neumann Brothers, Inc. will again join others in the construction industry from across the country during the voluntary, week-long effort to raise awareness of fall hazards and reinforce the importance of fall prevention.

The National Safety Stand-Down initiative is made possible through the combined effort of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), the National Occupational Research Agenda (NORA), OSHA approved State Plans, State consultation programs, the Center for Construction Research and Training (CPWR), the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE), the National Safety Council, the National Construction Safety Executives (NCSE), the U.S. Air Force, and the OSHA Training Institute (OTI) Education Centers and others.

“Our goal is to send everyone home safe at the end of the day. To do that – jobsite safety must be a priority.” John Neumann, VP Risk Management

According to BLS 2015 data:

  • Falls are the leading cause of death in construction
  • 364 of the 937 nationwide construction fatalities recorded in 2015 were due to falls
  • Over a third of fatal falls were from 15 feet or less
  • Nearly a quarter of fatal falls occurred from ladders

“It’s a perfect opportunity for employers and employees to sit down and talk about fall-prevention methods in their workplace and how they can work safely at heights,” said Scott Ketcham, Deputy Director, Directorate of Construction, Occupational Safety and Health Administration.

Neumann Brothers, in conjunction with our OSHA Partners, will conduct a Safety Stand-Down event on May 15 (UPDATED: May 12) at the Polk County Criminal Courts (PCCC) at 12:30 p.m. In addition to the PCCC crew, crews from Neumann’s EMC, Hub Tower, Catholic Diocese and Iowa State Capitol projects will also attend.
