During Construction Week 2017, October 2-8, Neumann Brothers, Inc. celebrated the people who build and restore the places and spaces where we work, live and play every day. There are so many successful, talented men and women in the construction industry. They deserve recognition, appreciation and respect for the fabulous work they do!
In addition to showcasing our skilled tradespeople, Construction Week is a time to focus on raising awareness of the many rewarding opportunities, increase public dialogue about careers in construction and bring construction to life for students, educators and parents.
The industry is experiencing a severe shortage of skilled tradespeople. This will only grow worse in the years to come and as more of our seasoned trade professionals approach retirement – we risk losing their years’ of wisdom, experience and expertise. In order to preserve the collective wisdom of these construction professionals – we’re working hard to promote the industry and attract the next generation of skilled construction professionals.
Firms and individuals across the construction industry continue to work together to raise awareness of and create excitement for the industry as a safe, exciting, rewarding career option. The construction industry offers high paying jobs and ranks high in job satisfaction. There are career opportunities for students who want to enter the workforce immediately after high school and for those who want to attend a 4-year college or a 2-year technical school.
The focused effort across the country to recruit and prepare new tradespeople includes collaborating with educators to make career and technical education a priority in high schools again; changing the negative connotation of careers in the construction industry; creating and providing resources, like www.BuildIowa.org (created and maintained by Master Builders of Iowa) and http://explore-ace.org/ (created and maintained by ACE Mentor Program), to make it easier for interested individuals to explore career paths in the construction industry.
We had a great time visiting jobsites, handing out Construction Week t-shirts and showcasing the dedicated men and women in the field and the skilled work they do. If you’re interested in a career in construction, visit the above websites to start learning more about the various career opportunities and how to get started!
