On Tuesday, June 19, 2018 we had the pleasure of attending North Central States Regional Council of Carpenters (NCSRCC)’s Grand Opening celebration of the new Altoona Training Center!
Located at 1st Avenue N and Adventureland Drive NE, the new facility is 49,000 sf and divided into two major areas. The first two story 20,000 sf area house offices, classrooms and general administrative spaces. The second one story, open bay, 29,000 sf area houses hands-on training and workshops spaces.
“This project was a blast to be a part of, not only being tied to one of our major trades, but creating a state of the art training facility where our young men & women will advance through their Carpenter Apprenticeship Training Program,” Senior Vice President Chad Bunner said.
Bits of industry history including tools of the trade, formation and growth of the union, and pictures of the new center at different stages of construction – decorate the halls. Every item, every photo, every piece of historical information preserve the stories behind the trade and the facility.
Funded entirely by local union members and union members from across the nation, numerous people from many trades and sub-specialties contributed their talents and expertise to the project. From those who played a role in its construction to those who raised funds to finance it – the new center is the result of teamwork and will provide quality training space for generations to come!
It’s been a pleasure for us to play a part in making this project – so important to our industry – reality. For more information on a career in the construction industry check out website www.carpenters106.org and visit www.buildiowa.org!
