This time of year is busy around here. We’re setting up for the end of the year financials and closeouts, some projects are wrapping up while others are preparing to kick off at the start of 2019. There are holiday parties to attend and shopping to get in. It’s full speed ahead in all areas for us all. But for one of us the end of the year had a few extra perks and challenges.
Project Administrator Connor Johnson completed his final classes and exams to officially earn his degree from Buena Vista University on December 16th. Connor finished his Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and Finance online while working full-time for Neumann. “I really enjoyed working full-time while finishing my degree because I was able to gain real world experience that actually helped in school as many of my classes focused on a lot of the accounting principles we use here – that exposure was really beneficial to have prior to taking some of my final classes” said Connor.
Connor originally went to school to study Agricultural Business. During his freshman year he was required to take an accounting course as part of his major. “I took the class and loved it, so I switched my major to accounting” he said. That switch led to Connor joining our team this summer. “I didn’t know what to expect when I first came to Neumann Brothers, being that I had never previously worked in construction. But I’ve enjoyed the work and the people.”
Working full-time and completing a degree is no easy feat and we’re impressed that he never missed a beat. “My main challenge was time management. I had to stick to a strict schedule in order to get my school work done on time” said Connor. “But finishing my degree online meant that I didn’t have to let school affect my work schedule or vice versa and it allowed me more flexibility to get my homework done before and after work without having to drive to campus.”
We are so proud of Connor for all of his hard work. He’s not one to brag (in fact he may have “forgotten” to tell us of his major life accomplishment) so we’ll brag for him. Congratulations, Connor – we are so proud to have you as part of our team!
