Neumann Breaks Ground in Middletown, Iowa at Guard Facility

Monday, June 21, 2010

Middletown, IA - More than 50 people came to witness the groundbreaking for a new Iowa Army National Guard facility in southeastern Iowa held earlier this month. Neumann Brothers, Inc. is once again pleased to serve as general contractor for a project of this scope and magnitude.

"We welcome the opportunity to work with the Iowa Army National Guard on another major project," Marshall Linn, Neumann Brothers President and CEO said. "Our team has a proven track record in achieving the goals outlined by the Guard and we will strive to meet and exceed their expectations on this project."

Consisting of more than 47,000 total square feet, the Middletown Armed Forces Readiness Center (AFRC) will contain a 7,500 square foot assembly hall, full kitchen, multi-purpose classrooms, weapons simulation facility, fitness facility, storage and administrative space for all assigned soldiers, and parking for 198 vehicles.

Set to begin construction in early July, the Middletown Field Maintenance Shop will consist of approximately 33,500 square feet, which includes eight work bays, one wash bay, communications and electronics repair facilities, a multi-purpose classroom/training facility, and parking for 28 vehicles.

Middletown is one of the four projects awarded to the Iowa National Guard by the BRAC (Base Realignment and Closure) initiative, including the Freedom Center complex at Camp Dodge, and AFRCs in Cedar Rapids and Muscatine. U.S. Rep. Dave Loebsack, D-2nd District and member of the House Armed Services Committee and its readiness subcommittee, is encouraged by the support to create these centers. "This really is, I think, a dynamic time for the Iowa National Guard and for the Reserves," he said.

Loebsack also praised the project's environmental building standards. As sustainable design is a priority of the Iowa National Guard, the facilities are designed to meet the U.S. Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) "Silver" standard and could create anywhere from 80 to 100 jobs according to a Neumann spokesman.

The project is scheduled to be completed in September 2011. Neumann Brothers, Inc. is a general contractor in Des Moines, Iowa specializing in pre-construction and construction services including new construction, historical restoration and renovation, tenant improvements, industrial and millwright services and design-build construction. Neumann Brothers will celebrate their 100th anniversary in 2012.
