Des Moines, IA (February 2013) – Neumann Brothers, Inc is set to begin the third and final stage of the Cedar Rapids Veterans Memorial Building project. Damaged by monumental floods in 2008, the project is restoring most aspects of the historic building back to its original design as well as providing new mechanical/electrical systems and elevators. The Veterans Memorial Building is known locally as the heart of the city and is a central gathering place for veterans and members of the community.
The interior renovation and flood restoration project was broken down into three construction phases. When completed, the project will include the restoration of both public and veteran’s spaces. Public spaces will include a community ballroom, café, conference center, meeting rooms, office space, and fitness center. The veterans will be provided with two museum spaces, conference and meeting rooms, a physical therapy area, healing spaces, and storage area. The third phase of the project will focus specifically on the auditorium. When completed, part of the space will be devoted to permanent veteran displays, while the remaining area will be more traditional auditorium space with seating for up to 500 people. Construction is expected to last 10 months with the completion date sometime in December.
