DES MOINES, Iowa – Neumann Brothers, Inc.celebrated the groundbreaking of the Des Moines Community Playhouse renovation on Monday, June 10. The Playhouse, built in 1934, is an important part of the cultural community in Des Moines.
“As the southern entrance to the Roosevelt shopping district, the Des Moines Community Playhouse, and its iconic structure, is an integral part of the community,” said Marshall Linn, Neumann Brothers President and CEO. “With a new addition and renovation the Playhouse has hopes of bringing even more people to the theatre.”
The first phase of the project includes removing the existing main entrance and building a new glass façade entrance on 42nd Street. This phase of the project will begin in July and last approximately eight months. BNIM was selected to design the addition and renovation of the Des Moines Community Playhouse.
The multi-phased project will include a renovated 400-seat Mainstage theatre, expanded education spaces, additional costume and properties storage, new dressing rooms, administrative offices, green rooms, and updated mechanics.
