DES MOINES, Iowa – Neumann Brothers recently completed the Principal Pavilion, Aldabra Tortoise and Penguin Indoor Viewing Building, and the Bactrian Camel Exhibit at Blank Park Zoo. The Principal Pavilion was featured during Blank Park Zoo’s annual fundraiser “Zoobiliation”.
Neumann’s zoo expedition began with the Australia Exhibit in October of 2010. Since then, Neumann Brothers has constructed all parts of the world and homes for many species of animals including the Gibbons Exhibit, Macaque Exhibit, Sea Lion Pool, Africa Exhibit, and the Quarantine facilities.
The Principal Pavilion is an educational viewing area that offers an unobstructed view of the giraffe exhibit. The Bactrian Camel exhibit, located just north of the Zoo in Blank Park, is a public attraction giving passing traffic a great view of the camels and aviary. The new Aldabra Tortoise and Penguin exhibit allows visitors to view the tortoises year-round. The tortoise holding area features a sand pit, allowing for potential egg laying as well as a place for the tortoises to relax. Visitors will also be able to see the juvenile tortoises.
Currently, Neumann Brothers is in the process of completing several other projects at the zoo including a Giraffe feeding deck, Giraffe exhibit yard expansion, and the expansion of the otter exhibit. The Giraffe expansion includes an indoor day room for public viewing and additional hoof stock.
“We have had the pleasure to work as a team with Blank Park Zoo and architectural firms to enhance animal welfare and public attractions throughout the zoo,” said Matt Davis, project manager for Neumann Brothers. “This process has not only allowed us to develop an amazing relationship with the entire team, but also enhanced our knowledge of animals throughout the world as well as the special requirements for each species we have worked with. We are very pleased to be part of the team bettering the Des Moines Community and providing safe and enjoyable attractions in the area.”
