Neumann Brothers began restoration work May 12th on the exterior of the Polk County Courthouse as well as the interior of the historic clock and bell tower. The structure was constructed in 1906 and is an iconic building in downtown Des Moines. In order to restore this landmark back to its original glory, Neumann Brothers will restore the building's masonry components including limestone, granite, tuck-pointing, and repair all other stone surfaces as well as clean all surfaces on the exterior of the building. In order to ensure safe access to the structure, scaffolding will be erected surrounding the entire tower along with a stair tower to access the roof. The courthouse will remain open during the restoration process and work will be completed with minimal disruptions to the public. The Polk County Courthouse restoration will be completed by November 2014.
