Energy efficiency is a hallmark of this landmark office building in downtown Des Moines. The 430,000-square-foot structure represents the first building in the United States to use a European-designed ventilated rain screen system.

The exterior skin of the building consists of 12,000 panels created from recycled aluminum. In addition to office space, the project included two underground parking garages and three skywalks. The HVAC system employs 750 tons of cooling, supplemented by 24 ice storage containers used to precondition make-up air.

For its work on the project, Neumann Brothers was awarded the MidAmerican Energy Award for Efficiency in Design and Construction, and the CSI award for Excellence in Community Commitment,  Design Excellence and Quality Craftsmanship.
