Project Description:
This 120,000-square-foot student center is named for long-time Grinnell benefactor Joe Rosenfield. The facility includes full dining services on the first floor, meeting rooms and study on the second, and student affairs offices on the third. The building also houses the campus postal service.
Features of the interior include a 40,000-square-foot wood slat ceiling, 30,000 square feet of stone flooring, and a granite hearth and fireplace. An enclosed courtyard at the center of the building is sandwiched between two "Mero Wave" walls-curved two-story glass walls. These walls also serve as an interior feature of the dining hall and cafeteria area. The exterior finishes of the center incorporate three stone veneers and four brick blends.
This project achieved LEED® certification for use of sustainable materials and construction practices.
