Project Description:

Neumann Brothers provided preconstruction and construction services for this 206,484-square-foot athletic and fitness center on the Grinnell College campus. The two-building project included a natatorium and field house.

Special exterior features of the project are a 500-foot exterior loggia, brick veneer facade, and a large architectural "double eyebrow" of structural steel and composite metal panel surrounding the natatorium. Interior spaces include a synthetic poured gym floor, a 50-meter swimming pool with two large movable bulkheads, and four diving platforms. The pool itself is 13,150 square feet in size and holds 875,610 gallons of water. The facility also includes a large dance studio, an indoor track with pole vault and long jump pits, and tennis and racquetball courts. An underground locker facility links to a tunnel connecting the two buildings.

This project has been proposed for LEED® certification with special features such as water reclamation for wastewater conveyance.
