Project Description

Neumann Brothers was approached with a tight timeline of 4 months to demolish the existing Sea Lion exhibit, complete with all underwater plumbing, and construct a new and larger exhibit. This exhibit is located at the center of the zoo with constant pedestrian traffic surrounding the area every day. We strived to maintain a safe work area while expediting the schedule to complete this one-of-a-kind exhibit. The existing exhibit consisted of a large concrete pool structure and island, concrete haul outs, faux rocks and containment barriers.

Our goal was to create a new exhibit incorporating shade structures for the sea lions, a larger exhibit area allowing for additional harbor seals, and a handicap accessible observation deck along with an underwater viewing experience. The new exhibit features all of the above including handicap ramps, large faux rock work to resemble boulders in their native lands, concrete haul outs for easy entrance and exiting from the water, along with great viewing areas allowing the zoo staff to hold entertaining shows for all to experience from an elevated platform or through underwater acrylic viewing windows.
