Project Description

The first-floor renovation of a circa 1941 brick building converted a former kitchen and cafeteria on the Grinnell College campus into a lounge and dorm rooms to accommodate 52 students. This design-build project encompassed 16,500 square feet. The principal feature of the project was the lowering of the old cafeteria floor by 2-1/2 feet. This allowed for the addition of lofts to create 2-story dorm suites. Each suite contains a kitchen, bathroom, upper-floor bedrooms, and balcony over looking a 2-story living space. The project also included a complete update of the building's mechanical system.
