Intern Spotlight: Tyler Gearhart
Neumann Brothers is pleased to have Tyler Gearhart complete our summer internship! Tyler is studying Construction Management with a minor in Real Estate at the University of Northern Iowa. While pursuing his degree, Tyler is also an active UNI Construction Club member.
Born and raised in Norwalk, Iowa, Tyler was interested in construction at a young age. While attending high school, he worked for a local residential contractor and decided to pursue the construction industry professionally. During his senior year of high school and freshmen year of college at UNI, Tyler made multiple visits to the Neumann office and various job sites and first joined our team as a union laborer.
Last year as a Neumann laborer, Tyler had the opportunity to work on the Farm Bureau and Jack Trice Stadium projects. He enjoyed the attention to detail and values the Neumann team possessed; therefore, he returned this year for a summer internship to continue building on the experience and knowledge he gained as a laborer.
This summer, Tyler spent most of his time between the office and the field at 3750 on Grand. “I loved being part of the entire construction process from start to finish,” he said. “From pouring gypcrete to putting drywall up, you really understand the importance of sticking true to your schedule.”
Tyler is a talented individual, and the entire Neumann team is proud of his progress and accomplishments in just two years! We asked Tyler what advice he would share with a fellow college student interested in the construction industry. “The best thing to do is ask questions,” he shared. “Neumann has a large pool of resources–from college alumni to individuals in the field–and there is a wealth of knowledge from people who can answer any questions you have.”
Although graduation is a couple of years away, Tyler plans to stay in the Des Moines area and work for a general contractor. He loves watching sports, especially football and UFC, in his free time. He also enjoys quality time with his family and spending time outdoors fishing, hunting, and biking.
