Project Intern

Job Title: Construction Project Intern

Reports to: Director of Project Management

Job Summary: The Project Intern works closely with the Project Team (Superintendent, Project Manager, and other Neumann Staff) or assigned Office Supervisors learning and supporting the overall management of the construction process. The Project Intern develops strong relationships with the field and office teams. Communication, trouble shooting, and problem-solving skills are critical for success.  The Project Intern is a daily representative of Neumann and must demonstrate our core values. 

Primary Functions:

  • Construction Project Management Core Competencies
    • Assist Project Manager with Project Set Up
    • Learn Submittal review and tracking for Project
    • Learn Schedule development and update management of Project
    • Learn Commitment writing for trade partners on Project
    • Learn project Document Management of all updated Project information
    • Learn Cost Management tracking of Project
    • Learn Change Management collection, tracking and approvals for Project
    • Advocate for Safety culture throughout Company and Project
    • Assist and Collect Punch Management process of Project
    • Learn QA/QC process on Project
    • Learn and Assist with Warranty process on Project
    • Learn and Assist with Closeout process on Project
    • Project Estimating
    • Learn and Assist in the development of project estimates from conception to contract execution including performing quantity take-off and estimating work on Project pursuits.

  • Other duties as assigned

 Physical Demands & Work Environment:

Physical Demands:

  • Duties will include standing, walking, sitting, reaching with hands and arms, climbing or balancing, stooping or kneeling, talking and hearing, and use of fingers and hands to feel objects, tools, or Including, climbing ladders, scaffolds, structures, etc. (above and below ground level) while maintaining balance and reaching in all directions.
  • Must occasionally lift, push, pull, or move up to 35 lbs.

Working Conditions:

  • While in the office relatively free from unpleasant environmental conditions or hazards.
  • Conditions will vary at each project location but may include extreme temperatures and exposure to other physically challenging environmental.
  • May occasionally be exposed to high noise levels and/or hazardous materials while on job sites.

Hours:  Potential work may require more than 40 hours per week.

Travel: The job will be performed in an office environment, on a construction project job site, and with owners or project partners at their offices or other meeting sites. Personnel are responsible for their own transportation.

Driver’s License Requirement:

  • Valid Iowa driver’s license.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • None

Required Education & Experience:

  • Current enrollment in an accredited Associate or Bachelor’s Degree in construction management or engineering.

Other Duties:

  • May be asked to assist in other functions of the company as needed.
