Originally constructed in 1885, what we now know as the Edna Griffin Building sits in the heart of downtown Des Moines. Neumann’s knowledge of historic tax credit projects and our reputation to come up with unique solutions during construction were key reasons Neumann was selected as the General Contractor during the most recent renovation to revitalize this space.
The Edna Griffin building required a well-rounded team that was experienced, collaborative, and passionate about providing quality work that was worthy of the legacy and craftsmanship of this century old historic building. Neumann’s self-perform work crews and our trusted trade partners were able to restore many of the historical elements of the project.
Working closely with the Architect and Owner, we were able to successfully transform this once vacant 6-story office building into 36 apartment units, 2nd floor office space, and vibrant 1st floor retail, all within budget and on schedule while tackling some difficult challenges along the way.
