Brooklyn Opera House

The Brooklyn Opera House was incorporated in 1910 and opened on February 28, 1911 with a rendition of “Toymaker’s Dream” and served a the cultural center in Brooklyn, Iowa for performances and silent movies in its early years. Over 100 years later, the Brooklyn Opera House still stands. But within its history is also a time it was completely abandoned. Neumann was brought in to return purpose to the building. The much-loved building again hosts live events, movies, weddings, and performances.

Duration of Project

June 2019-May 2020

7,500 square feet completed within $3 million budget

Neumann was able to salvage and restore the 850 SF performance stage. We added seating for 238 people, new open lobby with restrooms, ticket office, as well as all new mechanical, electrical, AV, and theatrical lighting systems. The project also included an addition that connects the Opera House to the neighboring community center allowing people to enjoy both venues under one roof. We worked with the client on historical tax credits, grant applications, and many efforts to complete the funding for this project.

Restored building, renewed community.

Brooklyn Opera House is now fully restored to its original intent – a community cultural and performance venue.
